This Is What We Walked Into Today

You gotta love it!

We got to hold her for about an hour and half total today. I don't know what they think is going to happen when we get her home. She'll be snuggled on for sure and Sid will try to tickle her to the point of irratation. haha! I fed her once and Sid fed her once. She is eating almost 2 ounces.

I guess the thing that makes me upset about this NICU is that they are small and therefore not very parent friendly. This is also the hospital that the Choctaws have a contract with to deliver all their babies at. So Bailey is the only white baby in the whole NICU and I don't think they are used to parents being with their baby all day long. I don't mean that ugly, but that's just a fact of life with the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians Reservation in the same county as we live in. They just have a different culture than we do. Anyway, in Birmingham, where Erin was born and other friends had babies in the NICU, they eventually got to move out of the NICU into a room so that Mom and Dad could care for them while they still needed to be "under nursing care." That doesn't happen at this hospital. If it did, Bailey would probably already be in a room that we could stay with her in. So that is frustrating for me.

Not much new news to report other than Miss Bailey is coming right along. She stays awake for about an hour after she eats and just looks at us, like who the heck are you people. I was thinking that she would get to come home tomorrow because they have basically just been observing her for 48 hours now, but the doctor and the nurse pract. seem to think it will be a few days longer. So we'll see. It's getting very tough for me and Sid both to keep it together. We had to give up our room today so I don't know what we will do tomorrow and the rest of the days until she comes home, especially since I am pumping. But we'll see.

From those of you who have been where we are, either in Mississippi or in Alabama, we so appreicate the words of encouragement. They mean alot to know that you all have perfectly normal healthy kids and there is life after this.

Sorry For The Delay

In updating. It was a long and emotional day yesterday for Sid and I both so when we got home we crashed. We are about to head to the hospital, but just talked with the doctor. He tells me everytime I talk to him how pretty my baby is and how good she is doing. She is making progress by leaps and bounds. Until today they were waking her every 3 hours to feed. Today they will let her wake herself to see how she does. She lost 3 ounces but that is expected because she didn't have any fluids yesterday. She maintained her own body temperature for 24 hours now so basically we will work on feeding. Dr. Boyd said if she continues to make this kind of progress she'll be home by the weekend. Please keep that goal in your prayers.

We are so thankful for Bailey and that she is a fighter. For those of you who know me and Sid well, you know you don't tell either one of us we CAN'T do something. Apparently she got that trait too!!!

Sid and I just talked with the doctor. We are a little later than normal leaving this morning because we had to get some bills paid and such. Bailey's IV came out so they are leaving it out which means she'll have to gain weight eating or they will put it back in. She still has some temp instablity but the isolette is off for now too. This is the new doctor that will be on this week. He said he was just looking at my pretty baby!!! She is a pretty baby if I don't say so myself.

Please keep us in your prayers as he says he might be another week or so before she comes home. We have to give up our hospital room today probably so I don't know how all this is going to work.

We won't get to hold her much more today but I can feed her.

We are on our way to see her now. So I'll update more when we get back home.

Introducing Bailey Ellen Whitehead

Our wake up call this morning was Bailey's doctor, informing us that she was off the oxygen and all lines had been removed. He told us that we could hold her today and we were thrilled. She is eating from a bottle again, and eating quite alot at about an ounce every 3 hours. She got a bath today and all she has hooked up to her is an IV for fluids. That will come out when she starts gaining weight from eating. We don't know this for sure but we are thinking maybe Wednesday we'll get to come home.

Bailey's doctor was in the NICU this morning when we got there. Normally he is gone by the time visting hours start at 10:00 a.m. Anyway, he told us he's been doing this a long time and this baby gave him a few more grey hairs. So everyday we are more and more thankful for her progress and that she was able to stay in Meridian and not have to go to UAB or Children's.

Another Day Down

This was quite possibly the hardest day so far. Maybe it was the weather that made it so blah. Maybe because it is Saturday and it's been a very long week. Maybe it's just because the situation. But for whatever reason, it was a hard one. I can garantee you that the hardest thing you will ever have to do is let strangers care for your child, newborn or not. To leave your child, newborn or not, at the hospital and come home to an empty house. To lay in bed at night and wonder what your baby is doing and if people are being good to her because she isn't well enough for you to take care of yet.

Sid and I have been very pleased with the neonat and with the nurses. Bailey's nurse today has been her nurse before, but today she was much more open to the concept of us being there. We spent about 3 1/2 hours with her today, the longest amount of time yet. But we still aren't able to hold her. The doctor told me today that we could probably hold her on Monday. She isn't getting a bottle anymore because she was having to work too hard to suck, swallow, and breathe all at the same time. So she has a g-tube in her mouth. Not a big deal, but I wanted her to get better at sucking a bottle and eating from one.

When Sid and I talked to the doctor this morning, he told us that he had twenty babies between this hospital and another hospital and Bailey had been the baby that had worried him the most. That's a hard pill to swallow when Bailey NICU mates are 26 week old twin babies. She should certainly be better off than them, but apparently that isn't the way it works. The doctor said that she straddled the fence on developing pulminary hypertension. Had that happened, she would have been air lifted to UAB and put on ECMO. But Bailey pulled out of it and is now over that hump. We learned all this today and so it didn't make for a good morning. But the day did get better. The doctor decided to leave everything alone for today and let her rest and in his words, "Celebrate" because of the turn she had made.

She still has oxygen in her nose and they are turning it down by 1% every four hours. She is down to like 27 I think and the goal is 22. So hopefully by this time tomorrow she'll be off the oxygen, they'll take the lines out of her belly button and start a normal IV for fluids. She is eating 15 cc's every 3 hours and boy does she get hungry and get ready for it. It will be uped to 20 cc's at some point before in the morning. So she's getting there with that too. She is still under the light but the doctor said she'd probably come out from under that in the morning too.

She knows we are there when we are with her. She got all worked up at one point and nothing I did nor the nurse did would calm her down. So Sid starts lightly rubbing her back and BAM, she quit crying. He'd stop and she'd start again until he'd rub again. This went on for about 5 minutes until she fell asleep. It was comforting to know that we can comfort her even though we can't hold her at this point.

Again, we appreciate your calls and thoughts and prayers and visits. Please continue to pray that our little girl gets stronger and stronger each day and we are able to bring her home soon. I'll update again tomorrow night when we get home.

Bailey's Big Day

When we got to the hospital this morning, which was way before the doctor ever made rounds when we where actually in the hospital, we had already missed him. But I got to talk to the nurse pract. Apparently between 5:30 a.m. when we got up and called to check on her and 8:45 a.m. when we got to the hospital, Bailey had been taken off the vent. She is now on oxygen at 30%. We breathe 22% so not much further and she won't even have to have oxygen. We haven't gotten to hold her yet, but we were there today for 3 of her feedings. She actually had 4 the whole time we where there, but the first one was before visitors are allowed in the NICU and they told me she acted like she was hungry so I told them to go ahead. At the second feeding, which was at 12:30, the nurse was extremely nice. She offered to let me change her diaper but I told her I'd just observe since she had all these lines hooked up. Bailey opened her eyes and looked at us and responded to us talking to her and touching her. She got 5 cc's of milk for the first two feedings and moved up to 10 cc's for the rest of the day and night until the doctor comes back tomorrow. That is about 2 tablespoons. The nurses sit her up to feed her but they don't actually hold her either. She did have to start being under the billy rubin lamp (I don't know if that's how it's spelled or not). When we were there for her 9:30 p.m. feeding, she gulped the bottle so much she was smacking and she really seems to enjoy eating so that's good. The only problem today was with her oxygen gas levels in her blood. They were turning her oxygen down by 2% every so often and had gotten down to something like 25%. But at the 6:00 p.m. lab readings, the doctor decided to raise her oxygen level to 30% and leave it for the night. So throughout the night, other than feedings every 3 hours and vital signs, nothing should happen. There should be no change.

We are hopeful that she will get the lines out of her belly button tomorrow and get a normal IV. At that point, she can get a bath and we can hold her and feed her ourselves. So that should be the next big step.

For those of you who know me well know that I have always said I WAS NOT nursing. No way, no how. Well, when they take your baby and put her at the other end of the hospital, you feel so helpless that you will do anything you feel like you can to help her. Since she is sick and it is supposedly so good for her, I decided to go ahead and start pumping and I guess eventually she'll breast feed. I am still a little shocked at myself over this decision. But it really is what's best for Bailey. So far, everything is going will with it. But we'll see. She may like the bottle so much she doesn't want to breast feed. And that'll be fine too!

Mom and Dad got to come back over today. They were excited to see her. Sid's mom and dad and came and saw her too. Sid's Mom and Dad hadn't seen her since Monday and my Mom and Dad hadn't seen her since Tuesday. So they were all excited to get to see her. And I was excited to see Mom and Dad. There are just sometimes in life you need your mama and this is one of them.

I don't have Internet at the hospital so I'm not able to update this blog til I get home. I'm also not the best at answering my phone right now. Sid is better at answering and updating. It's still a little hard for me to talk about all this out loud. For those of you who have babies and take them home 2 days later, be very, very thankful. We are, however, grateful for the care Bailey is getting and the progress she has made. The prayers, calls, comments, concerns, etc. have all been so reassuring to Sid and I both. We know she is hearing your encouragement. Thank you all so much!

Bailey Ellen Whitehead

***UPDATE 8:00 p.m. Sid just called for an update and apparently the neonatologist didn't like Bailey's gas reading at 6:00. He ordered for the vent to be replaced. When they replaced the vent she got upset, as she usually does, so they are not turning her levels down anymore tonight. They will remain at what they were when we checked earlier and they did have to give her some the medication to help her rest that they had hoped they would discontinue today. Bailey's like her mama. She doesn't like anyone messing with her, poking tubes down her throat, then she gets all upset and can't calm herself down. They have to just stop the progress and let Bailey get control and then they'll move forward. I'll update when we update again.

Bailey was born Monday, December 22, at 2:32 p.m. She weighed 6 pounds and was 18 1/2 inches long. My blood pressure shot up Monday right before lunch and I had signs of pre-eclampsia. After about a 20 minute observation in L and D, the doctor decided it was best for me and Bailey that I deliver. We arrived at the hospital around 11:00 a.m. and 3 1/2 hours later Bailey was born by c-section. Although 6 pounds and 18 1/2 inches sounds like a full term baby, or not sounding like she was too early, she is considered a pre-mature baby. Bailey's lungs were not ready to operate on their own, so she has been in the NICU since birth on the ventalator. She had one big set back this week, but rebounded nicely and should be off the vent. by tomorrow, which is Friday. She obviously was much better off outside of me than still inside and as the doctor said, the only way to fix pre-eclampsia is to deliver the baby.

I was discharged today, but the hospital is letting us keep our prime time room right outside the nurses station until Monday free of charge. That is just so awesome. For the time being, we are at home for the night to get some much needed rest. At this point, Bailey doesn't like being touched or to hear loud voices, so we can't visit for long periods of time. We plan to be back at the hospital by 9:00 in the morning to converse with the neo-doctor and hopefully she'll come off that vent. We'll still have a tough road ahead of us even after she comes off the vent.

Right now, we appreciate all the phone calls, visits, and especially the prayers. Our little girl is a fighte and that's the main reason why she has come so far. I'll update this as we have new information.

Do You See What I See?

That ticker over there says something like 27 days. I feel like it's the day after Thanksgiving and am now anxiously awaiting Christmas. We all know at that point, it feels like Christmas is forever away. So yeah, it feels like 27 days is 9 more months!!!

oh yeah

If anyone can tell me how to get the video that I take from camera to the computer uploaded to blogger, I'd be forever grateful. As it stands right now, I can get it from the video camera to the computer to an application called picture motion brower and I can get it from there to a DVD, but I can not figure out how to blog it. Any suggestions????

Christmas Time's A'coming!

Bed rest has been good to me I suppose, at a crappy time of the year. I went to work Thursday for just a bit to tie up some loose ends and then to the daycare staff Christmas party Tuesday night. I stayed at home Wednesday and Thursday, leaving only to go to the daycare committee meeting Thursday night. Friday I was staying at home all day because we had plans for Sid's family Christmas on Friday night but ended up having to go to daycare unexpectedly and fire two people. I'll save those details for later. This is Christmas after all!

We went to Sid's mom and dad's Friday and had some yum, yum, yummy food. Sid cooked a beef tenderloin and we had hashbrown casserole, mac and cheese, green beans, pinto beans, rolls, I can't even think of what else we had. It was nice to have those foods because that is what my Mom would cook so it's comfort foods for me. And as always NeNe and Sid out did themselves. We exchanged gifts and little Mason was just hilarious when he opened his Justin Ostrich boots from NeNe and Jerry. I laughed until I hurt at him. Bailey got more presents than me and Sid did! haha! She got the cutest little outfit from Ben and Kylie and Sid even cried. NeNe had her a pretty white blanket made and she got a toy for her bed that NeNe so wanted her to have. Of course, we weren't left out by any means. Let's just say that I won't be hurting for Books A Million money in the near future, which really excites me!! Thanks NeNe and Jerry.

Saturday was a rough start as I started throwing up when getting ready to go to Sid's grandmother's for Christmas with the rest of the family. But Sid was patient and we made it out there. It was alot of fun and the food, again, was yummy. I've spent all weekend eating exactly what I was told not to eat. What can be the harm at this point? I didn't use any extra salt, though and nothing but water for me to drink so I'm getting in 60+ ounces a day. I got home from his grandmother's and was asleep at 3:30. Sid went hunting and I did not wake up til about 7 when he called me about supper. I was back asleep by 11 and slept til 10 this morning. I read somewhere that some women sleep instead of nest. So maybe that's what is up with all this sleeping.

I say Christmas Times A'Coming because we have now done all we are going to do with family that we are aware of for Christmas. But it's not even here yet. I get so upset thinking that I will not see my family this Christmas. The selfish part of me wants them to come over here but I know there is no way they can. I mean, Maggie and Bo also have to see his family. Chris and Leslie always go to her family's Christmas Day. And Mom and Dad have to be at home to do Christmas with all them. At our house, Christmas tradition is Christmas morning. Maybe I should make the ride over there and surprise them. What's the worst that could happen? Labor? But whatever happens, Christmas is coming and the only present still under our tree is a present that says to Mama from Bailey. That gets me everytime. Not only does Sid not have anyting from Bailey, he doesn't have anything from me either. Now, we did get a new TV that was suppose to be our Christmas and then we got a new video recorder, that was again supposed to be our Christmas. But I keep ending up with gifts. So it looks like tomorrow and Tuesday I've got to play Santa for my sweet Sid. He deserves the best after what he's put with this year out of me.

Speaking of family, me sweet Pap-Paw who is 80+ years old, is sick with a head cold. He even missed church this morning so I'm told. That's a sign to me that he is really under the weather. Again, I hate it I'm missing Christmas with my family. But don't you all fear, just as soon as the doctor says I can drive after giving birth, Bailey and I will be Bama bound, with her daddy in tow I'm sure. This will be the only year we miss Christmas Eve with the rest of the Self family, I can assure you of that.

Sid and I decided we'd go to Candle Light Christmas Eve service here and stay at home Christmas day together and just rest. It really could be any time now. I just wish I had a baby Bailey to snuggle with on Christmas Day!!!

I'll update if things change with my status or her's, but I don't see her wanting to come anytime soon on her own. So for the meantime, I'll be at home, keeping down the swelling and the blood pressure and keeping up the iron, hopefully!

Baby Bailey and her Abnormal Mama

So Monday I got to work relatively early for me and everything was fine. I felt fine. All was right in my little world. We had so much going on that my wonderful husband had made three trips to Wal-Mart before lunch, all for me! So all was well. And I headed out to my weekly check-up around noon, telling everyone I'd be back by 3 or so. Wellll, little did I know, crap happens when you least expect it with this baby thing.

To start things off, my blood pressure was 142/100. They waited and checked it again, this time it read 1??/94. So it had not come down much. The nurse took me to my exam room where she instructs me to undress from the waist down. I begin to think, this is it, my b p is high and he's checking me so maybe we can get somewhere with Bailey.

Dr. Purvis measures my belly to begin with and says, "37 weeks". Now if you will recall, he told me a few weeks back that when I started measuring 37 weeks we'd talk about a new due date. So I asked him can't we do something. He says no because I'm really only 35.1 weeks and she may not be mature enough to come. So I say ok, knowing deep down in my heart that I do not want her to be born any earlier than she has to be. But then, he looks at my b p counts and re-evaluated the situation. He decided to send me over to l and d to have them monitor my bp and said we'd go from there. He said if my bp continued to stay up we'd look at our options, but I needed to just get to L and D. So off I went, alone, thinking what the heck happens now.

Well I'll tell you what the heck happens now. They put me in the big, real deal, give birth, suite! And put my name on the outside of the door. I'm thinking, this is it. This is it!!! I need to call Sid. But I never got around to it. The nurse comes back in and is telling me that Dr. Purvis has ordered alot of lab work to be done and if it comes back not normal we wouldn't even have 45 minutes before we'd have to do something about the baby. At this point, I asked for some ice water and was told that I couldn't have anything in case we went into the OR. At that point I freaked. I called Sid and told him they wouldn't even let me have water so he might need to come as quickly as possible. How he made it down there in record time with everything he remembered to bring is beyond me. But he did and that will be another post unto itself.

We ended up with good news and bad news. Good news, Bailey is fine and really and truly so am I. Bad news is, we didn't get to have her yesterday, but for very good reasons. My iron is apparently so low that if Dr. Purvis had decided to take her, I would have had to have a blood transfusion. Not good! The blood work showed no protien in my urine, which is good. It also showed that I was not toxic although I had high bp and tons of swelling. So the decision was that we needed to do everything to keep bp and swelling down so that I do not become toxic while we do everything we can to get my iron up before delivery. I'm on a bp medicine that will pull some of the water off (and it has, I've peed about 10 million times since starting it) and on those nice, dreaded iron pills. Plus, strict bed rest to keep the swelling and bp down. They said I couldn't move any more than from the bed to the couch. I could tell a difference in the swelling after keeping them up most of the day, but they still aren't totally gone down. The doctor just doesn't want me to become toxic with high blood pressure, not because he doesn't think Bailey is ready, but because I need to get my iron up before we deliver so we are trying to get some time in on that.

I go back Friday morning I think and we'll see what goes from there. But for the record, bed rest sucks. Even though I have the best husband in the whole wide world, he has already started making comments about how someone around here has to earn a living, blah, blah, blah. Like I can help it. I just hope we can get through this. It's pretty nerve racking on my part too! Just say a prayer for us.

On a side note, Sid's mom has about a million things planned for Christmas and is also planning tons of stuff that I am not suppose to eat. I've already had a breakdown on Sunday when I realized that I wouldn't see my mom and dad again until Bailey gets here, meaning I won't see them at Christmas. Now, that's no excuse not to see Sid's family too, but now that this bed rest has come about I can only do so much. Since they have planned activities 3 days in a row, Sid and I find ourselves having to decide what we will and will not do. I think we are going to his mom's for Christmas on Friday night, but will just have to wait and see on the stuff at his grandmother's on Saturday and Sunday. But bed rest is bed rest and if I could do all that, I feel like I could go to work. And since I can't go to work, I feel like I shouldn't do anything else. And like I said, Christmas with my family this year is so not gonna happen because it doesn't matter when they do it, we can't go. So say a quick prayer for me that I handle myself like I should and not flip out and have a nervous crying breakdown. I know it's mostly 90% hormonal, but still, it sucks to feel that way.

Oh What A Night!

The wedding was PERFECT. There is so much to tell about it I don't even know where to begin. I think the sweetest two things had to be Erin and my Pap-paw. I have some pictures to post of lots of stuff and of course video that I don't know how to get to the blog. But as soon as I get pictures uploaded, I'll send them here.

Maggie and Bo were fantastic at the wedding and reception. Maggie looked beautiful and so happy and I think that's why I couldn't stop crying. I started crying about 30 minutes before the wedding and stopped long enough to read my scripture part. She just looked so pretty and happy and I was so happy for the both of them. And then sweet Erin, as beautiful as always. She is the most well-behaved child I have ever seen. Pap-paw did a great job, as always, and sounded a little teary eyed himself, which didn't help matters on my horomonal end.

As soon as the band started playing last night and Dad and Maggie had their dance, Erin went to that dance floor and never came off. She stole the show at that point.

Maggie and Bo left in a white stretch limo headed to the hotel in Bham and then to Jamacia this morning. I assume they made it. I talked to Maggie about 9:30 this morning and they were in the Dallas airport. I haven't heard from her since.

I wish I could put the night into words, but words can't describe their night. Mom and Dad did a wonderful job planning this wedding. I hope you enjoy the pictures as soon as I post them.

Sid and I are home now. I slept most of the way home so I didn't get tired of riding or feel sick. My feet are the most swollen they have ever been this whole time. I been talking to Bailey, telling her it's time now. But I think she's getting more comfortable inside where it's all warm. The race is on now!!!

Wedding Eve

We had rehearsal tonight and it was quite possibly the calmest one I've ever been to. Rehearsal dinner was very nice and it appeared a good time as had by all.

Maggie and Bo seemed extra calm, which made me very happy for the both of them. I have some pictures and video to post. The pictures will likely come way before the video as I don't know how to get the video from where it uploads to my computer to the blog.

Tomorrow will be the big day. I still wish little Bailey Ellen had somehow made her arrival to be at her Aunt Maggie Ellen's wedding, but no such luck. And had she been born early enough to come to the wedding, she probably couldn't have medically come. So when you look at it like that, I'm glad she's not here yet. However, I can promise this was the last ride to Bama without her in a car seat instead of her mama's tummy. It was scary the way I started to feel before we actually got here. Very weird feeling.

Anywho, I suppose it's bedtime now, but I just want to say to Bo and Maggie that I love you both very very much and the road will be tough and long and hard at times. But you have to remember why you are with each other and that arguing gets you no where fast. But the road will always be smooth and beautiful much of the time and it's these times that must keep you going. Never ever give up on why you are starting your own family becoming one. And don't let anyone or anything get in the way of what the two of you want for yourselves. You are your own unit now and it's up the the Bo and Maggie Battles unit to determine where your road where go. Get out that and find it. Just don't ever forget where you came from!!!! We love you both so very much!!!!!

Some Pictures Got Left Out

These are two of the pictures that are described below. I just had to post them in two different postings.

Posted by Picasa

Pictures That I've Promised, Some of Them Anyway

I'm not too sure what order these pictures uploaded in. So I'm just going to describe what I think should be here and we'll go from there. I have posted a picture of my Christmas tree. Sid and I always get a real one and even though we weren't sure what would be going down this Christmas, we still had to have one. So he took me to pick one out Thanksgiving morning, and here it is. Quite possibly the most perfect real tree I've ever had. And if you'll notice in one of the pictures, we only have one present under the tree. That present got put there today and on the tag it says To:Mama From: Bailey. Does my husband know how to send an eight month pregnant woman into emotional over drive or what??? How sweet is that??? I do have the best husband a girl could ask for. But I ask you again, what in the world can I surprise him with from Bailey, because I have absolutely no idea what she (he) got me.

One day while I was having one those glucose tests and we had time to kill at the hospital, we walked up to labor and delivery and saw the new babies and such as that. We noticed that the new babies all had these big hand painted signs announcing their arrival. I didn't necessarily want one with the birth statistics on it, but one with her name, hand painted, would be cool we thought. And Sid just happened to notice that one of the signs was painted by a guy from Philly that he actually had some connections to. So we got the guy a picture of Bailey's bedding, which is cherry blossoms, and wha-la!!! You should be able to see a picture of the end result here. We are oh so proud of it. The good news and best part is that it would have cost us about $100 to have the guy do it, but through Sid's connections it ended up being a way cool baby gift. So that picture will go over her bed. And we are very proud of it.

Some of these pictures are from the shower at Leslie's house. The cake was so cute. As you can see, it was a onesie thing with Bailey's name on it. I have pictures to post from some of the other showers too, but I they haven't been sent to me yet.

Oh, and good grief. Take a look at her closet. The diva has more clothes in her closet than her I do. And I might add that they are washed in dreft, dried on low, had a low heat iron to knock the wrinkles out and been hung in the closet just ready for her get here.

I do have other pictures, as my three favorite things have not been posted yet. But I'm getting there. I hope you enjoy these for a while!!!

Oh and any ideas on what Bailey can get her daddy, please pass them on.......

These Darn Doctors

So I went to my doctor's appointment today and guess what? No doctor there. The receptionist SAYS she tried to call but I had no message or missed called from their office. And I wasn't the only one coming in for my appointment. So she apparently missed calling some people. But anyway, when I got back to see the nurse, I told her I was going out of state at the end of the week. Welllll, she got way carried away and said I needed to go to labor and delivery at the hospital to make sure I was ok to travel. Which made no sense to me, but I did as I was told. Through admitting and into a labor and delivery room I go (which was kind of neat because now at least I know what the room looks like). Anyway, they checked me. Not dialated. They hooked me up to the machines. No contractions. And guess what else they told me? Your baby sure does move alot. Really? Please tell me something I don't already know.

Anyway, I missed the mark with yesterday's post because the visit was more crazy than I had expected. But the OB on call doctor cleared me for travel. So we are Bama Bound Friday morning for the big wedding.

I called Sid to tell him I was on the way home and he informed me that we have one present under the tree now. Bailey got me something he said. Sure enough, she did, but he says she won't tell what it is. She likes surprises. Now if I could just think of something ot surprise her daddy with.

Doctor's Appt Tomorrow

And I've walked enough this weekend that maybe it did some good. Welllll, I take that back. Actually, at this point we need to make it one more week at least. THE BIG WEDDING DAY IS COMING SOON!!! December 13th. I've cried so much this past week that I'm giving everybody who reads this that will be at the wedding fair warning, I will be a big bucket of tears next weekend. I can not believe that my baby sister is getting married. I repeat the poem I wrote about her when I was in the 5th grade (with my Dad's help:

My Mom's gonna have a new baby
That will probably drive me crazy.
But I can't wait
Til that memorable date,
When one way or another,
I'll have a new sister or brother!!!

I just can't believe she finished up at Alabama last week and is at home putting last minutes touches on her wedding. How exciting and sad at the same time. I just can't wait. I wish Bailey Ellen was here since she does have part of Maggie's name. But oh well!! It just wasn't meant to be. Sid's wearing a pink tie in honor of Bailey though and Mom and Maggie talked me out of wearing the dress I was going to wear and into wearing pants (thank goodness) so I don't have to look like a Christmas tree skirt. (Really, I would have!)

Anyway, this post got kind of random. I'm going to post later in the week about Maggie and Bo. And I'll update about whatever the doctor says tomorrow. But I bet you anything it goes like this, "Are you feeling ok? Yes, but I'm miserable. Ok, let's see what you are measuring. Yep, 35 weeks. Oh, listen, there's the baby's heartbeat. Good and strong. You do know what you are having right? (He asks me this every time and I have yet to figure out why, like he thinks I'm gonna forget.) Ok, well, you are already off work, right? No, you told me I could go back to work over a month ago and I've been working ever since. Oh, well you need to think about when you will stay off. Ok, I will but I dont' want to until I have to. Ok. Well, I'm sorry your whole body is swollen, you have restless legs, your arms and hands are going numb, your sinues are congested, your eyes are producing some random goo, your back is hurting, actually everything below your belly button is hurting, you are crying all the time, you're still throwing up at least half the week, blah blah blah. Let me know when you get REALLY miserable and we'll talk. Around 37 weeks we'll really, really talk. But for now, we'll see you in a week, kid!!!" I will sit there for 2 hours waiting on that same ole conversation that has taken place every week now for about two months. Hopefully soon we'll hear something different like, "Looks like you're in labor, kid!"

I'm Not Doing Much Better

On this blogging thing. And I do apologize. It's just gotten too much to lug the computer home and back every night and morning so I've been leaving it at work. Sometimes I use Sid's but not often. Maybe I should teach him to blog so his point of view and perspective can be journal ed, too! Then again, maybe not!!

It was a long week after I posted last time. But thank goodness I started feeling better. I just have a lot of swelling and sinus congestion, a little nausea and high blood pressure every now and then, but I'm determined not to have to stay off work until I it is absolutely necessary. I did get two of my workers qualified to stand in while I'm gone but I see it being a BIG problem with some of the other workers. I just hope everyone does their job. I keep saying "we aren't flipping burgers, we are taking care of people's children. What could be more important?" But apparently not everyone see's it that way. So we'll see.

Sid took me to look at Christmas lights tonight and we had fun. Went through two road blocks (well it was the same road block both times) during the process. We've got a big weekend and next week ahead of us, so let's all hope we make it through. Tomorrow we will be going to some of his extended family for Christmas and then I want to go to the Baptist Church tomorrow night to hear their Christmas music. Sunday Sid wants to go to a Christmas play that the art theater is doing downtown and Sunday night there is a program at our church. Tuesday night is the preschool program. Thursday night is Sid's work Christmas party and Friday we leave to come to Alabama for Maggie and Bo's wedding. So it will indeed be a long week.

Bailey has dropped down I think because my ribs feel a bit better. I go to the doctor on Monday and we'll see what he has to say. Hopefully all will be well so I can make it at least another week. After that, it's fair game. I am so uncomfortable, I am starting to feel disabled. Oh, and the hormones have surely kicked in high gear. Thank God I have a great husband. He is so understanding when I just break down for nothing. That makes me feel much better in and of itself!!!

Ok, So I Was Skimmpy

On the November posts. But it was a very busy month. And it seems it will only get busier as time goes on. No, I haven't posted pictures of the things I've promised. BUT we did get a Sony Handycam and after two more trips to the store, we can now upload video to the computer. So I hope to video Bailey's room and things and post it soon. I said HOPE so don't get your's up!!

We had another baby shower over the weekend. This time, it was at my church, the one where I work. And it turned out great. We got more cute, sweet pink things and more much needed diapers. This time Bailey got some toys, which we did not have any, so that was great. We appreciate FUMC of Philadelphia so much for lots of different reasons.

I was supposed to go for a non-stress test today, but decided to go in earlier because I just wasn't feeling right. I am having contractions but not dialated or anything like that, so she isn't even preparing to make her way into the world, the best I can tell. The doctor did say to stay off my feet and away from work for the next week, but we'll see how that goes. Some days I'm fine and dandy, some days, not so much. I go back to see him next Monday, the 8th. We'll see what happens between now and then. I'd love love love to be off of work I think, but I think it's one of those things that sounds better than it really is. As least I have peace of mind knowing that whatever pains and pressures I am feeling are normal and I'm normal and the baby is "beautiful" as the nurse put it today.

I still can't believe it's now December. We have a lot going on. Hopefully I won't be as skimmpy in December as I was in November. I should teach Sid how to blog so he can write to our fans, too!! haha!!!

We started off the Christmas month by attending the Neshoba County Christmas Parade. Fun..cold...but fun!!

So I'm a Day Late

But HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! We hope everyone had a great one. We did. We stayed in Philly and went to Sid's grandmother's for lunch. Most of the rest of the family was there and it was nice. We got our Christmas tree put up and Sid was able to do a little hunting.

I got cabin fever this morning, even though I'd been out of the house, so Sid and I decided to go to Meridian tonight and get some Christmas shopping done. We also had some things to get for Bailey that we knew we were gonna need and Sid's mom wanted to do that with us. So we all went. We got a lot done AND we got a camcorder. We have no idea how to use it, but know once we learn how to use it, it will be the best thing.

I never ever get up and fight the crowds on the Friday after Thanksgiving, so this year was no different. But it wasn't that crowded this afternoon and we had a good time.

So hope everyone's Thanksgiving weekend is going great and once I get those batteries charged up on the camera, I still promise to post some photos.

Long Time

No Post! I way over-did it this past weekend. It was a good weekend but I it was rough in the end. We had our Thanksgiving Soup meal at daycare Friday at 11:30 and ended up with standing room only. We had enough places set for 100 kids and parents and ran out of room. Thank goodness we didn't run out of food, though. I think everyone enjoyed it, but I stayed on my feet for about 5 hours. Fortunatly Sid was able to pack most of my stuff to leave for Alabama and we got on the road probably around 2. The ride over was HELL. My legs were hurting and restless before we even got there, but it was so good so see everybody when we got there. Erin was at mom's and mom had gone on a cooking spree. So it was nice. But I did not sleep one wink. Not one wink, my legs were so restless.

Saturday my eyes were still bothering me and I tried to wear my contacts but just couldn't. Leslie had a baby shower for me at her house, along with the help of Tiphanie, Liz and Maggie. THANKS GUYS!!! Sid's mom and dad came over for it. It was really nice. We got lots of cute pink stuff, some of which I'll post pictures of later. And we got a bunch of much needed things. Because I didn't sleep and because I had my glasses on, by 5:00 I was struggling. But we were going out to eat with Sid's mom and dad since they were in town. I was hungry too!

When we got to the Charlie B's (the eating place), Sid broke out into a sweat and was on the verge of throwing up. I swear if it's me it's him. He had been complaining of his back hurting all day so I was afraid of another kidney stone. He ended up having to leave us and go back to Mom and Dad's to lay down. I decided it was the flickering of the candles at Charlie B's. The last 5 or 6 times he's been around candles, it's triggered a migraine so I don't know. But he was pitiful. I slept better Saturday night, but not much better. I just couldn't get comfortable.

Sunday morning we went to church and then Cafe on Main to eat lunch with mom and dad. Maggie's bridal tea was Sunday at 2:00, so Sid and I went with her and Bo to help her open gifs at 1:00. It ended up being my job to help open presents and write them down the rest of the time, which was fine with me because I got to sit and down most of the time.

My Aunt Marianne came in about half way through the shower and brought me some baby gifts. I don't want to spoil the fun of what she got me, I want to post pictures of it, but I'll just say for now that it is by far one of my favs so far. So be on the lookout for pics of it. I must add here that mom put her monograming machine to good use and Bailey has monogramed stuff from her Mimi now. I have to post of picture of one the things Maggie and Mom got me, but I'll save the story with it later too. It was the second gift I've received for Bailey that has made me cry. Funny she has been the one to give me both gifts. HMMM! She has a way of doing that anyway.

Anyway, Sid picked me up at 3:00 for us to head home and he felt so bad he was in his pj's. We were kind of pitiful on the way home. He ended up feeling so bad the whole weekend that he went to the doctor himself yesterday to see if there was anything they could do with for the migraines. They put him on some daily meds and he had to go today for a routine CT of the head. On a side note, he went hunting this afternoon and just called to tell me he killed a deer, so maybe that will ease the tension some. Last year he didn't kill anything and this is the first day he's gotten to go this season. Even though I hate his hunting and could care less, I'm happy for him.

I got up throwing up yesterday morning and feeling like crap with a head cold. I was supposed to go to the doctor today but went yesterday instead since I was feeling so bad. Got good news, but Bailey is out of room and this pain I'm feeling at the top of my tummy is a rib she's kicked around and knocked a little out of whack. We will start doing non-stress tests on the 1st to make sure she is ok since she's out of room but Dr. Purvis said it could be any day now and if not by Christmas, we'd determine a day then to take her. So we expect her to be here by the New Year!!! I took it easy yesterday, as I felt like I had over done it over the weekend, but this morning didn't prove to be any better. I got up and got to work and threw up everywhere. So I've been at home most of the day today as well. I'm so bored and this is exactly why I can not be put on bed rest.

Soooo we'll try it again tomorrow and see how that goes. We will be closed Thursday and Friday so I hope I can work some tomorrow since I'll be off for four days.

I do feel like I've had some contractions and some other not so plesant mentions of prelabor, but I when I told Dr. Purvis I thought I was having contractions, he said, "I guess so, look at you!". Which I didn't think was too nice, but he and I have that sort of doctor/patient relationship.

Ok, so this has turned into a novel, but I'll post pics of the surprise from my Aunt Marianne and stuff like that later. And oh yeah, Aunt Maggie and Unca Bo won't be home from their honeymoon until Dec. 18th so Bailey WILL NOT come before then. Aunt Maggie has to be here!!!

Another Week

Gone by! But nothing new to report. So I will take this time to brag on my sweet husband. He did some handy work for me today in my office and I soooo appreciate it. He just doesn't know! One thing he did was hang some blinds over my windows so the sun will stop shining in and blinding me. It wasn't an easy task with concrete walls either.

I haven't felt so good this week. I ended up at the eye doctor Monday with an eye infection. I should have gone earlier but I thought it was just junk. So I've been having to wear my glasses and I don't know if that's the cause or not, but I've had some major, major nausea and headaches.

Bailey's definately growing becasue I feel that we are running out of room in here. I hope she's comfortable because I'm sure not. We'll see what happens when I'm at the doctor next Tuesday.

Alot to happen between now and then though. I will head back to Alabama this weekend, but this time Sid will be able to go with me. Some friends and family are giving me a baby shower Saturday at Leslie's house and Maggie's bridal tea is Sunday. Not to mention before we leave for Alabama I have planned the "Thanksgiving Soup" meal for 50 something kids and at least one parent each. It's turned into more than I tought it would be, but oh well, the parents seem to be happy and that's what counts. Maybe I'll post a picture.

We put some of Bailey's clothes in her drawers and hung some in the closet. I told Sid it seems so sureal planning for her. She has her own room and all these little clothes and when she arrives, she comes into this world with nothing but me and Sid. That's pretty scary if you think about it. Now that I know she is just perfect, I have started to worry that she won't like us. Sid says she will becasue she doesn't really have a choice. I just love him!!!!

More Things Bailey

This a picture of Bailey's baby bed with the bedding put on. As you can see, it's coming together.

This is the stocking that I bought Bay today. It's really cool, it actually has 5 different sections for Santa to leave his little happy's.

And finally, this is a picture of John Bailey and his wife Amanda. John Bailey is my grandfather's grandfather. Which makes John Bailey be my father's great-great grandfather. Which makes John Bailey be Bailey Ellen's great-great-great grandfather, if I have that correct. Anyway, Pap-paw sent this pic and Mom and Dad gave it to us at the baby shower Sunday. I think it's sort of cool that we have a picture of the man we chose to get Bailey's name from.

Bailey's 4-D pictures

The 4-D Experience

Yesterday Sid and I went for the 4-D ultrasound and it was AMAZING to say the least. My doctor does not do 4-D so we were sent to a radiologist in Meridian who has what they call a diagnostic center. I did not know this but the tech explained as she started that they wouldn't just take pictures of Bailey, but they'd look at everything about her, even though I wasn't sent there for a problem, only because I asked. The tech spent about 30 minutes looking at Bailey and then we got to see it all over again when the doctor came in to look.

First of all, my baby rolled her eyes while we where looking at her. The tech even rewound what she had recorded to make sure we so it, she was so tickled. Second of all, this baby NEVER stops moving, I mean never. The confirmed that yesterday, as she was quite active the entire time we were watching her. The first thing we saw was that she was sucking on her lips. Then she put her foot in her mouth. At one point, she had both feet at her head. And then the got the hick-ups.

This is how bad I've been during the pregnancy, thinking of every little thing that go wrong. We got to look at her brain and see her brain waves and activities. Poor Sid asks, "Are there ridges?" Even he knows that sometimes babies brains to not convert over from smooth to ridges. But indeed, she does have ridges and good brain activity and the tech even said she had a nice brain. They measured something with her cord and it made noise, maybe they were looking at all the stuff going in and out of it. I don't know, but it was good too. They spent quite a bit of time looking at her heart and everything was there and working properly. We got a nice shot of her lips and the tech commented again that she had some great lips, no cleft. All her organs are there and working properly.

It really put my mind at ease to see and hear all that and I really didn't expect that much of an in depth ultra sound. But I'm glad we got to have it. And I think she's just beautiful. I can't tell who she looks like, but I do see Sid when I look at the pictures.

As you read before, I was measuring 33 weeks at the doctor on Tuesday. The ultrasound yesterday confirmed that Bailey is indeed as big a 33 weeker. So the tech and radiologist seem to think that my due date is wrong and she could be here before the end of the year. She weighs 4 lb 6 oz, give or take 10 oz. So she weighs between 4 and 5 pounds. I don't think she has room to grow for 9 more weeks so I'm thinking only 6 or 7 more weeks. But we'll see!!

I'm off to Alabama this weekend for Maggie and Bo's "Trim the Tree" party and Liz's baby shower. I haven't seen Erin since the beginning of October so I'm excited about seeing her too.

Once Again

Time is flying and the end of the night is upon me before I realize there are still things I wanted to do during my day...such as blog. So much has happened in my little world in the past few days. So let's play catch-up.

Mom and Dad came over this weekend for my first baby shower. They arrived in Philly about 4:00 on Saturday afternoon and visited at the house for a bit. Then they were casino bound. Sid and I met them out there a little later for a fab dinner and a little slot machine playing. I enjoyed myself at what will probably be the very last time for a long long time, if not forever, slot machine time. Of course I didn't win anything, but what they hey, it was fun. Sid and I also went back and met Mom and Dad for the buffet breakfast Sunday morning and then they came back over and we visited until time for the baby shower.

The baby shower was at Sid's mom's church, the church Sid grew up in. Cooks Chapel First United Methodist. Sid and Dad went with me and mom to the shower because we wanted them to and what else better did they have to do. A big crowd turned out and Sid and I (and Bailey) got lots of neat and needed things. Mostly cute little pink outfits, but we did get a pack N play (or 2) and a few of those bouncy chairs. We got a few packs of diapers and wipes and tons of cute little pink girly clothes. As I sat in the Bailey's floor taking the tags off of her new clothes to be washed, I couldn't believ how excited I was getting over a bunch of pink stuff. haha!

I must not forgot that on Saturday morning Sid and I finished what we could of Bailey's room. The bed is together and bedding put on, the furniture arranged, the curtains hung, and the changing table ready to go. We are still working on her art work but hopefully that will be here soon.

I went to the doctor today since I'm having to go every 2 weeks now. Everything checked out just fine. Her heartbeat was at 155, just wonderful. And I should be right at 31 weeks along. However, I am measuring a little over 33 weeks. Dr. Purvis said when I start to measure 37 weeks we'll have to evaluate things to determine how much further I can go. All I know is she better hang on till after Dec. 13th.

I just ordered my dress, or what I hope will be my dress, for Maggie's wedding. Maggie approved it so that makes me feel better. I felt like everything that I could get that would accomodate by growing belly was granny looking. But hopefully not. Oh and on that note, I was informed today that I've only gained 22 pounds. I don't know how, but he said thats' not bad.

Other than being overly tired, I have felt really good lately. I have been getting some good sleep and emotionally feel pretty good.

We go tomorrow for the 4-D ultrasound so I'm looking forward to that. We get to video it on a VHS which is exciting. And also hopefully get some good shots of her for Sid's idea for our Christmas cards this year. Stay tuned, maybe I'll post some pics.

Friday, November 7, 2008

I don't have a baby book yet and I am starting to feel like I should. I do, however, have a pregnancy journal that I've somewhat written in over the past few months. So, should I finsih it up and have it at the baby shower on Sunday, rummage around and try to find one here in town, which probably wouldn't be too successful, or just not worry about it at the moment?

You know how I said I hadn't been nesting? Well in my mind, we get all of this stuff done, what's left besides a bunch of waiting. My deadline was Thanksgiving and that isn't quite here yet. We've still got about three more weeks. But we don't have a pack of diapers, not one bottle, nothing that she could really wear if she came on into the world early, not a wet-wipe, nothing to give her a bath with, no car seat to bring her home in... All we have is her bedroom furniture piled in her room and still haven't decided where we will put it all. I still have a few things to pack up and Sid still has a few boxes to put up. I still have to unpack her bedding, get it washed, and put on.

But for some reason I feel like I'm rushing her and would be getting way too excited if I were to just get it all done. On the other hand, it would be nice to have it done and not have it hanging over our heads.

I don't know how any of your pregnancies have gone, but mine have been like this: I was really really excited when I found out I was pg. I wanted to do it alllll right then. But my level-headed husband talked me out of it. So then came the stage of thinking we didn't need to do too much becasue what if something happened. I didn't want to have a full nursery done when, God-willing, anything could have still happened at that point. So I did nothing. Then after I was past the "worry date", I was sick and tired and tired of being sick and physically felt like doing nothing. I did clean out several several boxes, which was a first step and got us going. I did get the bed ordered and got it here. Sid did get the bed put together. Piece by piece it has come together, just not all the way and I'm being made to feel like it's now or never. Is this true? Or do I still have a little bit of time? I don't want to rush it and then be so prepared for her it feels like it takes another 10 months to get her here, but at the same time I don't want to appear as if I don't care. So I don't know what to do. What do you think?

This Is For All You Mama's of Little Boys

I'm on the look out for a christmas tutu that Bailey can wear next year at Christmas. That seems to be the thing around here this year but I've only heard about them. I can't find them. Someone told me Children's Place had them but I can't seem to find it online. Anyway, I think it sounds really really cute so let me know if you spot one. OH, and a onesie that says "Merry Everything". Too cute!!

Anywhoo, time is just flying by. We have our first baby shower this weekend at Sid's mom's church and of course we are excited. I haven't done much recently in Bailey's room so I got to get busy on that, too. Apparently I'm supposed to be doing something called "nesting" but I'm not and I don't even know what that is. But if I ever start it I'll let you know.

We go back to the doc on Tuesday, since I go every 2 weeks now. I've been feeling really really good the past week or so. The only problem to note is that the no sleep/restless legs thing is getting worse instead of better. Wednesday night I did not sleep one wink. Not one wink of sleep and I was about to kill over all day yesterday. It was a long too, since we had a board meeting here at church for the daycare. BUT, I went to sleep at 9:00 and didn't wake up until about 7:30 this morning. I didn't even wake up to go to the bathroom, so that's big for me. And some much needed sleep.

Stay tuned for pics of the baby shower. Oh, my sweet little sister, who it feels like just came home from the hospital as a newborn yesterday, is having her lingere shower Saturday. I just can not believe that. It makes me sad in a way. But on the other hand, she's excited so I'm excited for her. I will not be able to make it to this shower since it's Saturday night in Birmingham, but I know she's looking forward to it. Anywhoo, stay tuned for pictures.

I Can't Believe

That's it's already November. Time is flying by. And we are getting way more excited with each big kick. Or I am anyway. Sid still says he can't feel her although he sometimes says he can see her kicks. I think they are just alike and both hard headed. She does have a tendency to stop moving and kicking when he wants to watch or feel. Then he gets frustrated and walks away. That's why I think they will be just alike. Time will soon tell.

Well, we didn't get to see Erin or Mason for Halloween yesterday. We didn't go to Alabama, although I would have loved to. And our schedules just didn't fit with Sid's brother's last night so we didn't get to see Mason either. I missed most of the children at daycare being dressed up since I had to go learn about playground safety yesterday morning (not a good day for State Health to plan a training). Anywhoo, I did get to see some of the kids at the Fall Festival at Church Wednesday night. They were too cute, especially my babies. And it made me feel good because every single one of them that say me and Sid walking around either reached out from their mom's for me to hold them or had to give me a hug (if they were big boys and girls). I guess I liked it when they recognized me outside of daycare and still liked me. hehe!!

One mom, who has two kids at the daycare, aged 2 and 3, told me that she heard the 3 year old at home the other day threatening the 2 year old (who was misbehaving) by saying: "Do you want me to get Mrs. Barbie?" Now, the funny thing about that is that neither of her children have ever been in trouble with their teacher, much less me. But I guess I do make an impact and that is good!!

We did make the front page of The Neshoba County Democrat last week. The 3 and 4 year olds did the St. Jude's Trike-A-Thon and one of the little girl's grandmother's works for the paper. She came a took a picture of my little darlings. It turned out really good and was even in color. The parents and kids raised almost $800 for the cause and I was very proud of them. It just goes to show that people that can give still do even the economy is killing us all. See, there is no need for Obama to MAKE us give when we are clearly still willing, given the chance. I mean, it cost me and Sid $50 bucks at church Wednesday before last to pay for supper, buy from a fund raiser from a little girl who asked, and then give to the orphanage in Russia after the guest speaker got done talking. I know all that is still church, but that's enough of a political rant for now. (Since I probably don't really know what I am talking about anyway.)

I had a really good week. Thursday and Friday I had some new director training with State Health but it wasn't bad at all. And I got alot done at work when we done each of those days. I slept two good nights on Thursday and Friday. So that was a nice change. I hope it continues. I think I might have over done it yesterday as I was gone ALL DAY LONG, worked a little late, went to eat Mexican, and then went out to Ne Ne's to visit with them and avoid the Trick Or Treaters. (I know I know, I will be one them next year, but I still wanted to take the night off.) We didn't get home til almost 9:00 so I was gone from the house running full force for a little over 12 hours and I was worn out by the time my head hit the pillow. Bailey was so busy yesterday during the meeting that I could hear the table thumping as she kicked it.

Sid is working all weekend and I plan to do some more things in the nursery. Got to get it done as we will be busy, busy, busy from here on out. Next weekend, the 9th, is a baby shower at the church Sid grew up in (Ne Ne's church). Then the next weekend is a baby shower at home for Liz on Saturday (the 15th) and a shower for Bo and Maggie that night. The next weekend is a shower in Alabama at Leslie's house. My friend Tiphanie and my baby sis Maggie are helping to give it. Thanks guys. We appreciate to soooo much (on the 22nd). And Maggie's tea is the 23rd. Then it's Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, this will probably be my very first Thanksgiving away from home. But we'll be at home the weekend before Thanksgiving and we'll have to come back to Mississippi because we'll both have to work Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. And I don't want to turn around drive back to Bama as I don't want to over do it. Because the BIG DAY for Maggie and Bo is coming right up. Their wedding is Dec. 13th. Somewhere in all that, our church, the one I work out, wants to give us a baby shower. But we don't have the date set for it yet. Hmmm, now that I look at it this way, maybe I'll stay in pj's all day and do nothing as it appears this will be the last day for a long long time that I will be able to do so.

Ok, Ok, so that's enough for now. I hope everyone had a safe and Happy Halloween. It's time to gear up for Baby Showers and Wedding Showers and Thanksgiving now!!! And as Bailey kicks at the computer (I don't think she likes to hear my typing), it won't be long to her big arrival!!

Much Better Report Today

I went back to the doctor today for a follow up from last week's drama. The doctor stated that I looked much, much better. Much calmer. I am 29 weeks and measuring 30.5 weeks. My blood pressure was normal and my heart rate was only 109, which is way way down. I only had one time over the weekend it felt like it was racing my blood pressure dropped. The doctor had given my something to help me sleep at my visit 3 weeks ago and I stopped taking it last week since it was the only thing "different" that I could figure out might be making me feel that way. I am not sleeping but we decided today I'd just have to not sleep. He doesn't want me on it if that could be the problem. He made this comment which pretty much sums it all up for me: "With you, kid, it's either hit or miss. If we miss it, it effects you totally different than it does most other women." I told him my mom and dad would agree because it's been this way my whole life. haha!

So I go back in two weeks and I can work if I feel like. I have felt like working so he said just to try about 5 hours at a time and I can increase it if I feel like it. I think I feel much better if I do work.

I have state health meetings Thursday and Friday so I will not be at the center for Halloween. This made me sad since I'd love to see all my babies dressed up. Oh well, maybe I'll get to sneak in and get a peek.

Oh and one other thing. This past weekend we went to this place here called Lovern's Arena. It's a resturant with a bull riding arena. The two are seperated by a big wall of glass and if you so choose, you can watch the bull riding while you eat. We got there early enough to eat and then go to the other side and sit. Our nephew, Mason, who is 3 1/2 is so into bull riding and all that fun stuff so Ne Ne, Kylie, Mason and Mamie came to watch the bull riding. But anyway, before we left to go, I was getting dressed and wanted to wear my boots. Needless to say my feet are so swollen that my boots would not go on so I ended up wearing Sid's. They were comfortable and looked ok. But I got a little upset because I had no shoes at all to wear in such cool weather. So what does my wonderful husband do? He bought me a new pair of shoes Sunday and they are PERFECT. He pikced them out all by himself and I love them and they are cute and they wear good. I'll have to post a picture. But he's too good to me!!

More Notes From The Belly

Well I went back to the doc yesterday and everything looked good, so the doctor thinks the day of rest helped with everything. He put me on something for the heart palpatations and told me to stay at home. As I type this, I'm at work. I just can't sit at home. So I figured I'd come and do what I could do and when or if I felt my heart racing or blood pressure dropping I could go home and relax. I go back to the doc on Tuesday so I plan to tell him that I feel fine and probably should go back to work. Again, Bailey's heartbeat was great yesterday and nothing seems to be effecting her.

We do have alot coming up and so I definatly do not want to on bedrest for all that. We have a baby shower here in Philly on the 9th. Maggie and Bo have a couples Christmas shower on the Nov. 15th and Maggie's tea is Nov. 23rd. I have a baby shower to attend in Bama on Nov. 15th. Leslie and Tiphanie and maybe more friends are trying to schedule a baby shower in Oneonta. And The Big Wedding Day is Dec. 13th. Just alot going on and I want to be able to make it to all of Maggie's stuff for sure.

Other than that, nothing new to report. The weather in Philly makes me wish I was in the mountains relaxing with my sweet hubby. But we can't and I know that. Lots to do! He's working on his shed this weekend and I guess I'll take it easy.

Notes From the Under "Belly"

This has not been a good week and I apologize in advance for the complaining. Monday was picture day at the center and low and behold it did take about 6 hours to get all the kids photographed. But during that time, I started to feel really really bad. So after it was over, I went home for some lunch and checked my blood pressure as I could feel my heart racing. But instead of being high, it was really low, like 95/55, but my heart beat was high. So I called the nurse and she acted like the low blood pressure was fine but I could go to the ER in Meridian (at the hospital my doc delivers at) if I felt like I couldn't breathe or my heart was acting up. But I didn't feel like anything I was feeling warrented that, so I went on back to work. Monday night, I rested with my feet up and could tell that as long I rested my blood pressure was fine. When I got up and moved around, it dropped. And I was nauseated all day long Monday, which had eased up some so it's been a while since I was nauseated like that.

On Tuesday, I got up and went to work and felt horrible. I was dizzy and could feel my heart beating all over my body. So at lunch I came home and took my blood pressure again and it was lower than it had been the previous day. So I called the nurse back and she said to come on to the ER and she'd call the doctor and let him know I was going.

It was, once again, a confusing time. I ended up having to go through the ER instead of up to labor and deliver where they normally treat pregnant women. I told the ER doc about my blood pressure, the way my heart was feeling, and that the OB had indicated that I could have had a UTI or kidney infection two weeks before. Not that I thought that had anything to do with the price of tea in china. But low and behold, here comes the nurse wanting to do a cath do get a clean urine sample.

To say that I FREAKED out is an understatement. They could have admitted me to the psyhc ward after the way I was acting. The bad part was I tried to calm down and couldn't. It just kept getting worse. I had just had an IV put in, the man with the EKG machine was there hooking me up to all his crap and then they wanted to stick a cath in. Needless to say, I did let them do what they had to do, but was not happy about it. Thankfully it wasn't as bad as I had feared.

In the end, it was a UTI, my white count was still elevated, my blood pressure wasn't a problem because it's better to have low pressure than high pressure (even though I still feel bad) and he didn't know what to tell my about my racing heart except that it was probably anxiety. I came home with instructions to take some antibiotics for the UTI and a day of best rest today to lay on my left side to get the blood flowing properly. My blood pressure is ok today, but my heart is still racing. I was told to follow up on Friday, but I called and will have to go tomorrow for the follow up with Dr. Purvis.

Poor Sid, he didn't know what to think when I started flipping out I don't think. I had warned him before we went that if there was a need for an IV, I would probably cry just because of anxiety but I'd be ok. I had no idea I'd need to warn him of a full blown panic attack. He has now seen me at my upmost worst.

The good, no-the great news, out of all this, is once agian it is only me with the problems and nothing is effecting Bailey. She probably wishes her mama would get a grip and get over it.

I don't know what happened to that last post. OH well!

Random Happenings!!

No one turned on the TV after we got home from Cursillo until Wednesday morning. When I say TV I mean the 51 inch wide screen TV that I purchased myself after the divorce. It was my "crisis" purchase. So anyway, it didn't get turned on after we got back until Wednesday morning and it was working perfectly. Wednesday at lunch it was not!! I was convinced that it was the cable box or something like that but after Sid talked to the cable company and did some looking at it, it was determined that the big screen had lost it's life. I was rather sad but I think Sid was glad to see it go. It was sort of big for the living room and was hard to watch since it was so big for the room. But at the same time, who randomly wants to buy a new TV when they thought the one they had was perfectly fine? Certainly not us, with all the things we are having to buy anyway right now. One other problem that it caused was the the TV sat on the floor, not a piece of furniture. So in looking at new TV's we knew we'd have to get a new piece of furniture too. Having the wonderful non-procastinating husband that I do, he immediatly started scouting for a new TV and a TV stand. He did a GREAT job! We ended up getting a corner stand, which was perfect for our living room, that matched our coffee table and end tables. Then we ended up with a 37 inch flat screen LCD HDTV, blah blah blah! But we love it. And it does make the room look much better. But who would have thought we'd have to fork out the money for that on a random Friday afternoon unexpectedly and spend a Friday night putting the stuff together?? Well, actually Sid said I snored while it was all being assembled. He's such a good husband.

Last night we went to Meridian with his cousin Amy and her baby Colin. He is too cute. Sid looked so natural holding him and walking around with him. But he had to cuss at the umbrella stroller when it wouldn't fold up. I found it rather humerous. We picked up Bailey's baby bed and mattress. Sid is putting it together now as I blog this. And it is beautiful. We are extremly happy. I said I wished we had a video camera so I could video these moments. His reply: He wants a lot of stuff but he got me instead. Again, my wonderful husband. He's lucky I love him so!!!

I still promise to blog about Curisllo weekend. And I promise to post pictures of all this new stuff.

Meanwhile, I have started a registry at Babies R Us and have done most of the "registering" part online. We did look at actual stuff in Jackson two weekends ago and in Meridian last night. I figured the online part would be easier. But I was wrong. It is a really slow process and a bit overwhelming. But we are getting there. I just don't know how you are ever fully prepared for this. But we are getting there.

We had to cancel the St. Jude's Trike-A-Thon on Friday due to rain, but we have rescheduled it for this upcoming Friday. However, money did get turned in and our 38 preschoolers raised over $600. I was so very proud of them (and their parents). Pictures for the center are tomorrow and start bright and early at 7 a.m. The lady says we'll be lucky to get everyone done in one day, but that doesn't make much sense to me. I'm hoping she's wrong, but we'll see......

I Can't Believe It's Already Thursday

And so much has happened this week. I mean soooo much!!!!! And can you blieve that baby counter says 94 days to go???? I can't.

Monday was our one year anniversary. Tuesday was NeNe's birthday. Yesterday was Sid's birthday. Tonight we are going to a "homecoming" for Cursillo in Jackson where everybody who was there gets together one last time. We are excited about going. But it has been one very busy week. Hopefully we will get some rest this weekend.

Speaking of rest, I have noticed that my feet are so swollen by the time I get home. So for the past two nights I've kept them propped up from the time I get home until I go to sleep and I also try to keep them proppped on a stool under my desk some during work. I don't know if this has anything to do with it or not but I have fallen right asleep without restless legs the past two nights. Now I probably just jinxed myself but hopefully not. The sleep has been well welcomed!!

Tomorrow we are havign a St. Jude's Trike-A-Thon for our preschool. I don't really know what to expect since I haven't done it before. But I know the end results is bike safety and a good time for the kids and some money raised for St. Jude's. Maybe I'll take some pictures. I also want to post pictures of my babies in their quad stroller. They are so cute wheeling around together.

I promise to post about our Cursillo weekend this weekend when I get time. Here's the website for it though in case anyone wants to read about it. Somewhere on there is our group pciture too!

Look at that!! This is the first time I've been on the blog since last week since we've been gone and the ticker has moved down to LESS THAN 100 DAYS!!!! OH MY GOSH!!! That's kind of scary to think about.

So, today is the big 1 year anniversary for me and Sid. And what a year it has been. It feels like way longer than a year but a year is really not that long at all and we've come a long long way. No one could have ever told me a year ago that we'd be where we are today. It's been a great year. Sure, I miss my family and my old job, BUT I wouldn't trade the past year and what we have now for anything else in the world. I love you Sid!!!

I'll write more on our Cursillo weekend probably tomorrow. It's been crazy at work today, I barely had time to post this. But it was an A-MAZING weekend for the both of us and I think this baby got more of a blessing than I did. More to come later!

News From The Test Results

Good news and bad news! Good news first, most of my chemistry panel looked good. My iron is low so we'll do an iron suplement for that.

Bad news: My white count is around 25000 and normal is between 4000-12000. So it's elevated and the nurse didn't know what he'd want to do about that. But I'll start an antibiotic assuming it's a kidney infection.

More bad news: The glucse test should be 140 or below and mine is 153. Soooo, diet time for me. They will go over that with me at the next appt. which is October 28th.

Now for some even better news: Sid and I are headed out this afternoon for our Cursillo weekend. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

And the best news of the day: Chris and Leslie are having a baby boy!!!!! I wonder what Erin will say about that!

Man, They Sure Do Make This Pregnancy Thing Harder Than It Has To Be!!

How many of you know I'm a great big baby??? Ok, Ok, so that's all of you!! I went this morning for the gulcose test, which is a normal test for pregnant mothers. But the hard part was I couldn't eat anything until AFTER the test. I threw up once before leaving the house just from having an empty stomach but seemed to feel better as time went on. Admitting and the lab at the hosptial were fabulous, no wait at all. But I had some other tests to be conducted at the same time. So they had to draw about 5 vials of blood before I drank the sugar drink. Then I was instructed to drink the orange drink within 5 minutes. I'm thinking that at the end of the 5 mintues I can get more blood and then go eat something. OH, but no!!! After drinking the stuff I was instructed to come back in an hour. And during that hour, if you throw up the sugar drink, the test has to be repeated on a different day. So I was bound and determined NOT to throw up again. I gaged a few times and felt really really light headed a few times, but I made it. During the hour wait after drinking the drink though, Sid and I walked up to the nursery and looked at the new babies. There were 3 in there that were born this morning. Brand spanking new little things. It was a teary moment for me and I'm sure it was for Sid too!!! Just a reminder that it will all be worth it in the end.

I don't know the results of the other tests yet, so I don't know if I have a kidney infection or not. But, I just don't know how some women make this look so darn easy. Yesterday at the doctor's office, some lady came bouncing in wearing a short tennis skirt and gym shirt. She looked ready to pop any day. I wanted to shoot her a bird!

I will be glad when Bailey makes her grand entrance into the Whitehead household. And I'm very grateful for my sweet Sid who puts up with me until that time comes.

God is Good...All the Time!!

So, I didn't post much about this because I was having mixed feelings. But as some of you know, Sid and I are due to leave Thursday afternoon headed to Cursillo. It's about a 3 to 3 1/2 hour drive. I had been dreading going for several reasons. Number one, if I don't get up and immedialty put something into my mouth, I throw up. It never fails. Second of all, with these restless legs, I am up most of the night anyway. And when I do sleep, I usually wake up all hours of the night. When I wake up like that, I'm hungry and have to eat a little something to keep the nausea at bay. So I didn't want to inconvience someone (a roommate) by being up all night and having to eat immediatly when I did wake up. Other than that, I was looking forward to going. So I called the head of Cursillo, as instructed to do on my letter, yesterday morning and explained my fears. She didn't do much to relieve them and said she'd call me back this morning but she didn't see any way I could have a private room.

I didn't hear back from her today and with the doctor wanting to do some blood work, I convinced myself that I wouldn't go. I called after lunch to tell her I wouldn't be there and she said they had a meeting and decided that I would need a private room and they still wanted me to come. Sid gets to go with me, there will be males and females on this walk. However, we have seperate rooms. Sooooo, I decided the devil wouldn't win this fight.

I'll be going sometime tomorrow for those tests and then we'll leave Thursday around 1:00 to drive to Camp Wesley Pines. We are excited and I'm just glad it all worked out. Sid is too! So keep us in your prayers as we go on this journey together.

Also, I may not be posting much since I'll be busy the next few days and then gone through Sunday. Monday is our 1 year anniversary!!! And Sid's 33rd Birthday is Wednesday. So we are looking forward to all that, too!

Doctor's Appointment Today

So today was the monthly check-up and the baby seems to be doing really well. She is moving around alot and has a great heart beat. I, however, seem to have something wrong all the time. My back has been hurting and I've had some cramping that I normally haven't had. They did a urinalysis and something in that was high so it is a probable kidney infection but we won't know until I have some further tests run. Also, I have developed those restless legs and arms which apparently means something is off balance, like iron, but we won't know that either until tests are fun. So I have a book of lab slips and have been instructed to have them completed ASAP. The problem is it's time for that dreaded glucose test where I'm suppose to fast for 8 hours and then drink this nasty stuff. So Dr. Purvis decided I could have all this done at one time. Except I could have gone today and had all other labs checked. But since he decided to have me do the fasting test at the same time, I have to plan to go back to Meridian and waste another day. We will either do that Thursday or Friday.

The good news in all of this is that I am the one with problems, not Bailey. Oh, just in case anyone wants to know, apparently tums for the calcium, OJ for the iron and a magnesium supplement should help ease the restless legs and arms until we know what else is going on. I know one thing, I NEED my sleep, which you all know, and so this not sleeping is killing me. So I'll be happy to get to the bottom of it.

Aside from the tests at the end of the week, I go back in three weeks. This is the first time I've been and haven't had an ultrasound, but it was fine. I know Bailey is doing good with all the movement and her heartbeat sounded soooo good!

Say a prayer for Chris and Leslie. They find out Thursday what their little one is. I'm secretly hoping for a boy because I know they'd like to have one of each. But Erin so wants a sister and I know they will just be happy to have a healthly baby. Also, Chris is having oral surgery on Friday, which will be no fun for him OR Leslie, who will be caring for him.

Bailey has a bed!!|62702|62709

Maybe that link will work. I have no idea how to put a picture from the internet up here. And sometimes this thing won't let me insert a link. Actually, I just tried it out and you'll have to highlight the link above, copy it, and past it into the address bar and then it'll pull up the bed. Or you can go to and click on baby, then furniture, then cribs, then scroll Monteray Convertible Crib by Bedford Baby.

So anyway, after much deliberation on a bed that she will have for a long, long time we finally came to a decesion and made the purchase. I did not want a bed that appeared to be all bars all the way around it mainly because when it turned into a big bed I wanted it to have a full head board and not a head board with bars. Just a personal peference. So after searching and searching I think we fianlly agreed on a bed that will be just as pretty of a big bed as it was a baby bed. I hope so anyway.

Now if we can just come to an agreement on what we will do her room in.....

I go to the doctor tomorrow for my monthly check-up and I'm glad to be going this time as I have tons of questions. I'm starting to have some anxiety which I think is coming from the no sleep which is probably happening because I have bad bad bad restless legs and arms when I try to sleep. The bigger I get and the more she moves (I can actually see my belly move when she moves now) the more I realize she does have to come out and that's scaring the heck out of me. So I hope Dr. Purvis has some answers for these questions. Those that know me well know that I can get down to the nitty gritty asking questions.

Happy Birthday Poppy T!!

Today was Dad's birthday and Mom made us all reservations at the Birmingham Museum of Art for lunch. It was fantastic and the best part of it all was that we were ALL there. All four our us and our "others". Dad I hope you enjoyed it as much as we all did! Happy Birthday!

It's Been Quiet

Around the home front the past few days. Nothing new to report. I seem to have a new bout of energy which is wonderful. I got my hair done at lunch today and it's looking good! So all is well at the Whitehead household. Hard to imagine we only have 15 weeks to go. Won't be much longer but whew...the work that has to be done. We are getting there though!!
